Sultan of Sokoto Calls Social Media ‘A Terrorist Organisation’ — Nigerians Respond With Major Shade!
So, here’s what went down on Wednesday, 16th April 2025 — the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, came out and said that social media is a terrorist organisation and that the security agencies need to handle it.
Naturally, Nigerians on social media did NOT hold back. Like, how could they? Social media is basically the only way the country gets to see what’s really going on — from the herdsmen causing chaos to bandits, and don’t even get us started on the Boko Haram situation.
Everyone was like, “Wait, what? Is the Sultan really trying to shut down the one place that’s showing the world the mess Nigerians are dealing with?” It was a full-on backlash.
But oh, the real tea came when an X user dropped the comment of the century. This person called the Sultan an “Olodo” (translation: someone acting clueless or foolish) and topped it off with, “Olodo carry bandage put for head dey call himself sultan.”

I mean, the shade was just too much!
Of course, the insults kept coming from all sides, but that one really made everyone stop and take a second look.
Now, the whole “bandage” comment might’ve been a bit of a stretch (since it’s his traditional headgear), but you can see how the internet went wild. People couldn’t resist mixing in a bit of humour and making the Sultan’s headwear part of the story. After all, when you’re publicly slamming social media, the last thing you want is to give people another reason to talk — even if it’s about your headgear.
So, what do you think — was the Sultan out of line? Wait a second! Did I just ask was the Sultan out of line? Of course, he was out of line, but that doesn’t warrant the insults he’s receiving from left, right, and centre. We get it, people are mad, but some of these insults are a little too much!
In as much as the twitter comment was out of line, the sultan made a triggering statement, with the Nigeria of today, I think social media has brought a lot visibility to so many covered activities.
