Kenyan Woman Arraigned for Job Scam Targeting Job Seekers to Mauritius

A Kenyan woman, Maria Wangare Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge, has been arraigned for her involvement in a fraudulent job scheme that deceived Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement on Friday, 28th March 2025, revealed that victims were charged between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placements, only to realize the promised opportunities did not exist.

Some individuals even traveled to Mauritius, where they were left stranded at the airport without assistance and were eventually deported back to Kenya.

Investigations indicate that a total of 43 victims sent Sh12.9 million to the suspect.

Kamunge, the Director of Trustpine Travel Agency, appeared in court for custodial orders and was subsequently remanded at Capital Hill Police Station.

The case is set for mention today, 28th March 2025.

The DCI is urging any additional victims of this scam to report the matter at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
