Fire Engulfs Shops in Onitsha’s Main Market

Traders in Onitsha’s bustling main market, situated on Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road, Anambra State, are today, 28th March, facing significant losses after a fire ripped through their shops.

The blaze, which reportedly originated in one building at approximately 6:20 am, quickly spread to a neighbouring structure, consuming everything in its path. The precise cause of the fire and further details remain unknown at the time of this report.

Chukwudi Chiketa, head of media and publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating that fire crews were promptly dispatched to bring the inferno under control.

Online footage depicted plumes of thick smoke billowing from the affected buildings as the fire took hold.
