A Divorce Notice That Cost an Innocent Soul’s Life
Mutesi Joline is a mother of five children, and her oldest child is 14. She has been married to Chris Rugari, and their love life started around 2013. Rugari is a diplomat, and he is more often out of the country.
However, in 2023, a random person called Rugari and told him that he wanted to pick his child from his family. As fate may have it, Rugari first thought this was a crook trying to disorganise their marriage. When the man insisted, Rugari told his wife, Joline about the calls he had been receiving of someone claiming to have a child with her she denied the man’s claims and told the husband that it was someone who wanted to throw their marriage on rocks.
Rugari was confused and the only way to conquer his fears was by carrying out a DNA test on the five children to confirm if they are his biological children or not. He opted to test three children and results showed that only one, the first born was his. He got devastated and depressed because he was very attached to all the two children who turned out not to be his.
Slowly Rugari recovered from this and asked for divorce without testing the remaining two children. After Rugari letting the cat out of the bag, the wife started staying with the four children, two who were already tested and two who hadn’t been confirmed to be his or not.
Following the row between Rugari and Joline, the first born who is Rugari’s son started attacking the mother for cheating on his dad. The Scathe from her son left Joline disgruntled and annoyed. She told her husband Rugari that he will never take away their two and half year son
When Rugari filed for divorce, court ordered for a fresh DNA analysis which was to be done by the government analytical lab before results are tendered in court as evidence of adultery. In the presence of lawyers from both parties ,experts were to pick DNA samples from the five children last week. However on the fateful night, Joline took the last born to a clinic in Kintale claiming he had fallen from the first floor of their house to the ground. When doctors checked him, he was stable and there was no need to admit him but recommended a CT scan Joline took the child back home and towards morning, she rushed him to the same hospital saying his condition had worsened only to be pronounced dead.
Joline called some of her relatives including those of her husband. They first believed her story that the boy had fallen through a window. But a close family friend advised them to not bury before getting police clearance owing to a claim of an accident as main cause of death. family friend who gave this advise pushed Joline on the edge and her hopes of burying the child quickly started diminishing.
Police examined the body and saw no injury on it. Thus, decided to arrest the mother and her maid. Upon visiting the scene, they found out that the window through which she claimed the boy had jumped through was permanently closed. This increased the suspicion of a foul play.
When police interrogated the maid, she claimed the boy fell in the sitting room and that she was not part of the evil plans and execution. Police went ahead and did a postmortem, which turned out that the boy died due to lack of oxygen in the lungs and there was no trace of food in the stomach which indicated that he had been starved for some days.
Arragments for the burial were made but police then asked to first do a DNA test to confirm whether the child belonged to her husband or not. The results turned out positive, the child belonged to Rugari adding to two biological children out five.
Rugari was cleared to go ahead and bury the deceased in Kabale yesterday. Joline will be appearing in court soon.
What was meant to be mere divorce hearing has now set in another bitter pill(murder charge) which is likely going to leave a bitter taste on her tongue and an everlasting scar on Rugari’s heart.
This tragic incident occurred in Uganda.
