Nigeria and South Africa Partner to Boost Mining
Nigeria and South Africa have just signed a deal to team up on mining.
According to Nigeria’s Mines Minister, Dele Alake, the partnership will include using drones for mapping, sharing data, and working together on exploring minerals.
South Africa’s mining experience will help Nigeria tap into its resources, especially in agro and energy minerals.
Nigeria’s Mineral Potential
Apart from oil, Nigeria has plenty of valuable minerals like gold, limestone, lithium, iron ore, and zinc. Even though the country has around 23 types of minerals in commercial quantities, mining still barely contributes to the economy, with less than 1% of the GDP.
What This Partnership Means for Nigeria’s Economy
Nigeria’s teaming up with South Africa to grow its mining. The aim is to reduce oil dependence. This partnership should bring in investment, create jobs, and give the economy a boost.
