So, the U.S. hit a fuel port in Yemen on Thursday, 18th April, and it was deadly.

At least 38 people are dead, and over 100 more are hurt. The airstrike targeted a key fuel port in the western part of the country, Ras Isa. It’s been one of the deadliest days in this ongoing conflict.

The U.S. isn’t backing down. Since last month, they have been carrying out these airstrikes. Their main goal? Stop the Houthis from attacking ships in the Red Sea. They have said they won’t stop until the Houthis stop targeting shipping lanes.

The U.S. military says these strikes are meant to cut off the Houthis’ fuel supply so they can’t keep attacking.

The U.S. didn’t give updated numbers on casualties, but they said the target was hit, and that’s their focus.

“The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis, who continue to exploit and bring great pain upon their fellow countrymen,” said the U.S. military on X.

Why Are the U.S. Attacking the Houthis?

The Houthis have been causing trouble for a while now. Since late last year, they have been attacking ships in the Red Sea. They say they’re doing it because they’re angry about Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The Houthis even promised to ramp up the attacks after Israel started fighting again last month. But since then, no new attacks have happened on ships.

In March, there was another round of airstrikes, and over 50 people died. It’s clear that things are heating up, and this latest round of strikes is another step in the growing tension.

What Happens Next?

The Red Sea is a major shipping route, and these attacks are messing with international trade. The U.S. isn’t going to let up until the Houthis stop their attacks. This is a serious situation, and things don’t seem like they will cool off anytime soon.
