A Facebook post from a Nigerian midwife has recently gone viral after she gave honest and humorous advice to expectant mothers on how to prepare for labour — and it’s sparking attention for all the right reasons.

Shared via the page My Midwife and I #MMI, the midwife encouraged pregnant women to “keep the racing field clean,” a light-hearted way of advising them to shave as they near the end of pregnancy. Her message, though playful, emphasized the practical benefits of cleanliness during delivery.

“Help us and help yourself… as soon as you enter the last days of your pregnancy, please keep the racing field clean… always shave please,” she wrote.

She further explained that grooming not only helps midwives and doctors during delivery but may also help reduce discomfort and even prevent tears.

“It can even help prevent you from tears because that area will be easy to guide.”

Adding a bit of humour, she joked about babies accidentally grabbing hair during delivery:

“My sister, e no go funny.”

The midwife also urged women to use a mirror if their partner isn’t available to help and encouraged others to take pride in personal hygiene.

“I’m just a midwife, don’t also add hunter work to my job,” she said, noting that some women come into labour with what she called “a thick forest.”

Her closing words were warm and supportive, applauding women who already practice good hygiene and urging others to follow suit.

“Let’s have a symbol that you are well informed by your favourite midwife ❤️.”

While humorous, the post resonated with many readers, serving as a gentle reminder about labour room readiness — from someone who’s been on the frontlines of childbirth.
